water protection

At a Glance

eQcharta offers you individual and comprehensive solutions for your freshwater projects. With our many years of experience in ecosystem assessment and analysis using field surveys, remote sensing, spatial analysis and modeling, we advise and support you in the development and implementation of restoration measures, rehabilitation projects and monitoring programs. At the interface between practice and research, we combine sound knowledge with innovative approaches and methods for application and integration into your projects.

Our Services

Field Surveys & Remote Sensing

We combine ecological, hydromorphological and thermal field surveys with remote sensing methods to assess large-scale and complex characteristics of freshwater ecosystems, including their dynamics and influence on biotic communities in a detailed and effective way. This information serve as a basis for comprehensive analyses and evaluation.

Spatial Analysis & Modeling

We use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to spatially represent, analyze and quantify the relationships between freshwater ecosystem characteristics and biotic communities in entire river and floodplain sections. With numerical modeling, we simulate and predict changes in discharge conditions or bedload transport.

Consulting & Knowledge Transfer

With our work and experience at the interface between practice and science, we advise companies and authorities, expand water-specific knowledge and develop new approaches and methods. With this, we create an innovative transfer of knowledge for practical application.

MSc. Geography

Founder and member of the management board

In his many years of work in applied ecosystem research, spatial analysis, remote sensing and risk management in science and practice, Michael has implemented a wide range of projects, especially in restoration and the rehabilitation of hydropower. This resulted in the foundation of eQcharta GmbH as an Eawag spin-off in 2013 and since 2014 in his work as a lecturer in ecohydrology at the ZHAW.
